Endless Loop in Flash
Hey,
This is my first Web Development related blog. I hope to do more, as I do tutorials and keep learning about web development. I hope my learning can also help others in their quest of web domination! Muhaha >:>
I've got Flash MX, it was released in 2004, and although the current version is CS3, you have to start somewhere. I used this Loop Animation tutorial to create a simple flash movie with an endless loop.
Thanks lombo311, of Flikr for the seamless image.
The only tricky part for me was creating a new movieclip on the stage. I found you needed to have a object to change into a movieclip. I drew a box on the stage, right clicked it, and hit "convert to symbol", then selected movieclip, which created a movie click on in my library. I was then able to delete the box I drew and continue with the tutorial.03/09/08
Fraser Island
This weekend I went to King Fisher Bay Resort on the Flight Centre Technology Conference. We had a lot of fun, and even managed to do some work.
Fraser Island is a national park, with lots of beautiful scenery, and many kinds of native species. This was the view from my room.

The first day we had some free time so we played a game of soccor on the beach. The opposition was pretty wild though.

Actually I took this on the early morning bird watching tour. It is a dingo, which is a native dog. They are really accustomed to people, which is making them develop bad eating habits. The ranger threw sand at them and chased them away, so that they become scared of people, and don't hang around humans looking for food.
They have lots of Eco-tourist activities to do on the island, like bird watching, you can see a list of things on their website. I highly recommend this resort to anyone who enjoys getting back to nature, whilst still remaining in luxury. I guess that's why Flight Centre chose to have our conference there, so that we could give it a plug like that, but really though, it was great.

On Saturday night we had a fancy dress party, the theme was cartoon characters. I went as Bob the Builder but many people had the same idea as me, you can see one of them in the picture. A lot of people wore great costumes. Zoidberg (the guy in the dressing gown) won the prize for best costume, and as you can see it was a top effort. He was even drinking beer through a straw, just like the real character!

My Birthday in Byron
Last week was my birthday, I was happily suprised when my colleges threw a suprise "Donut" party for me (we ate Kripsy Kream donuts). They all sung Happy Birthday and made a big deal of my birthday, which was totally unexpected, because I only started working their recently.
This weekend I went to Byron Bay with my parents. Byron Bay, for those who don't know, is the most Easterly point of Australia. It became famous for it's alternative way of life around 20 years ago. They refused to let multinational corporations, such as McDonalds into the town. While it has lost some of it's alternative appeal in recent times, it is still a beautiful spot, which is very popular amongst local and international tourists alike.

My parents and I went to Fresh for dinner. As you can see in the picture, there was a live band, and the food was excellent. It is very close to the beach, so a cool ocean breeze is in the air.

This is my mum and dad. They are big fans of Byron Bay, and have lots of friends there.

We had a delicious meal, nice wine in a fantastic atmosphere. I look forward to going back!

Valentine's Day
Happy Valentines day everyone!
Of all the holidays, I have to say I enjoy Valentines day the most. It is about people celebrating relationships. Being a hopeless romantic, I believe love comes first.
But Valentines day has it's down sides. This year I am far away from my love, because she lives in LA, and I miss her a lot. But seeing other couples celebrating their relationships, reminds me of just how much I cherish ours.

This couple enjoyed breakfast together on Mt.Cootha, it looked very romantic, good on them!
I rode up Mt. Cootha this morning, for the first time. It is 12km to the top, and the first part is very steep. I almost gave up after the first kilometre, but I was glad I went all the way to the top when I saw the view.

Too all those people alone on Valentines day, I feel you!
Peace

My local pool
At least once a week I try to go for a swim. If I don't go for a while, it is hard work, but if I got a couple of times a week, I am able to build up a head of steam, and it is enjoyable. I have to walk past this pub every time I go there, which is hard because it's always busy and they have cold beer and hot chips.

The Spring Hill baths is my local pool. It is the oldest in-ground pool in Brisbane, having been built in 1886. It is protected as Brisbane's Cultural Heritage.

| Although it is 130 years old, it still looks very modern. Those doors along the side are change rooms. |
|
I think the building has great acoustics because the evening I took these photos they where setting up for a concert. I heard one guy strumming his guitar, and the sound was bouncing around nicely. I think it would be a great place to have a swimming carnival. You would really be able to feel the roar of the crowd.
Luckily my camera survived the trip to the pool. I must take care of it!
